To help get my creative juices flowing, I choose a theme to plan school around each month. This month we did a farm theme. I am going to highlight some of Faith’s (3) favorite activities with the links of some of the printables we used. The picture on the left shows Faith sorting animals, on the farm or not on the farm. I used this activity as a vocabulary builder. She knew some of the animals, but not all of them. Through this activity, I learned that she doesn’t know her animal sounds at all and that any bird is a duck. I decided that we would focus on animal recognition and animal sounds for the rest of the month. This worksheet comes from the free Farm Pack from This Reading Mama.
Faith really likes size sorting activities. We work on words like, “big, little, biggest, bigger…etc.”. She chose to make the cows in a line from the smallest to the largest. This activity comes from the free Farm Pack from Gift of Curiosity.
This activity involves hiding an animal in the barn. Then I gave her a clue, “This animal says, “meow”. What is it?” After she guesses, I don’t tell her if she’s right or wrong I say, “Let’s open the door and find out.” She really liked this activity! I should have taught her siblings how to play it with her so that she could play more. I can’t play it as long as she can. 🙂 It comes from Buggy and Buddy.
This is a counting activity from Little Learning Lovies. This activity is too hard for her, she just gets to hear me count over and over. She really like counting, even though she can’t. And she gets to glue, which she loves to do.
We also had a sensory bin that we pulled out about twice a week. She enjoyed making the animals make noise and putting them all in the barn. I used a printable by Creative Preschool Resources.
I cut out the shapes and then taped a die to the back of each of them so that they would stand easily.
This month was our first official month back doing tot school since the new baby was born. We managed to do tot school about twice a week for 15 minutes each time. I am really excited to be learning more about my toddler and spending time with her. Next month our theme will be Garden. Do you have any suggestions for activities? Leave them in the comments!
