You’ve got questions? I’ve got answers.
How does this homeschool coaching thing work?
You click on this link to schedule your first free session. At the end of your discussion, we will talk about your goals and how often you want to meet. We will schedule the next session. It is $50/hour or $25/half hour and can be scheduled as often as weekly or as infrequently as monthly.
What can I expect from the first session?
The first session, I am getting to know your situation and goals and you are getting to know my style.
All you need for that first session is a quiet place to talk and water. Really, you will talk a lot. Don’t skip the water.
I will take notes while we talk and ask lots of questions to get to the heart of the matter. If I mention a resource or action step, I will note it down. At the end (whether you decide to continue coaching or not) I will send you an email with the notes from the session.
We will decide together if we should continue the coaching relationship. We both have to feel good about moving forward. It’s okay if you aren’t ready.
What can I expect from the following sessions?
Before your scheduled session, you will fill out a short preparation sheet to help me get ready for the session.
During the session we will discuss progress on your goals, brainstorm solutions to things that are getting in your way of accomplishing those goals, and create new action steps.
What if I don’t agree with an action step?
Please tell me! These sessions are for you and not everybody operates the same. I will not be offended! These sessions are not about me. They are about you. If you are not comfortable with an action step, tell me why and we can come up with something that works for you.
How many sessions do I need?
As many as we both agree to 🙂 In order to see big changes, it takes about 3 sessions. There has always been change after the first session, but big, solid change takes about 3. For some people, once they get going, they’re good. Others need a little more accountability.
That’s why I offer multiple time levels. If you have big issues that need working out, then you will need more 1 hour sessions, frequently. As things become stable and you gain confidence, the amount of time and frequency can decrease.
I’m freaking out about the money!
At this point, you are probably looking at your life, counting up the big issues and maybe freaking out a little at how much this is going to cost you.
If you are struggling with homeschooling, think about the last year, the last month, the last 24 hours. What wouldn’t you give to have a peaceful, pleasant homeschool? What wouldn’t you give to feel confident that you were doing exactly what your children need.
Think of the money you will save in curriculum since you won’t be chasing every new shiny object that promises to make math painless.
Think of the hours of tears you will not be crying because your house and homeschool are actually working now.
Why don’t you just tell me what to do?
It’s easy to think that all you need is an expert to come in and tell you what to do.
But I know a secret. The key to an amazing homeschool is: expert homeschool advice mixed with an expert in your family…you! You need to be a part of the process in order to have the best chance of success.
You know what the issues are. You know your children best. You know what you are willing to put up with. And you are the only one who can make change happen in your homeschool!
My question isn’t here?
If you have another question that isn’t in this list, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Not only will I answer your question directly, but I will add it to this list!
