Ahh the sound of children happily humming while they clean the kitchen. You mean your children don’t happily hum and clean the kitchen? Yeah, neither did mine. Until recently. Admittedly, the happy part is hit or miss.
I found a chore tracker that actually works. Once it’s set up, everyone knows exactly what chores need to be done and who is to do them…even my 3 year old.
I have been running the home for about 3 years now and have never found such an effective system; especially for little children. I can keep track of what chores have been done and what still needs to be done at a glance of the fridge.
How I Organized the Daily Kitchen Chores
We eat meals 3 times a day. I made a list of all of the chores that needed to be done once a day. Then I assigned each chore a time.
Here is what the finished product looks like:
I used dot markers to show on the card what time we were going to do that chore.
It’s easiest for me to assign my 3 year old the same chore all day, so her chore is to put the food away. Every Monday, my 5 and 7 year olds take turns putting their magnets on chores until all of the chores are claimed. The chore they hate the most is helping me wash dishes. For that reason, washing dishes counts as two chores and they can put two magnets on the one spot.
Each child has a different style magnet. When breakfast is over, I look at the chart to see who needs to do what chore. When they are finished with a chore, they turn their magnet over.
I can tell at a glance which chores are finished. If a chore isn’t finished I can tell who needs to go finish it.
Easy Peasy Chores
Easy Peasy Chores is what I used to create the kitchen chore chart. The download includes pictures for almost every chore you can think of for any room in your house, instructions and tips on how to do chores with young children and ideas on how to organize the chores. I found it very helpful, which is why I became an affiliate. I only sell things I would use.

I am enjoying using the system and look forward to a time when my entire house gets cleaned 🙂 Right now, I am just ecstatic that the kitchen is getting cleaned.
How do you keep your kitchen clean? I am always looking for new ideas!
